Legends of Woody Creek
RoadDogLabel_home.jpg

Woody Creek, fabled place in the central Rockies of Colorado, is the home of Flying Dogs, Hunter S. Thompson, the myths of Lenado: we live within these contexts. It is also home to the Woody Creek Tavern, watering hole for both Woody Creatures and visitors to Aspen and the greater Roaring Fork Valley. Serving Flying Dog Ale!
The legend of Flying Dog Ales goes thus: Ralph Steadman visits us in Woody Creek from time to time, partly, he says, to let the howl of the Flying Dog stir his inner soul. It was therefore natural that Ralph create the label art for our line of fine ales.

Ralph included a statement on the label about our beer: "Good Beer, No Shit," and Hunter gave us his truth: "Good people drink good beer." Both lines assaulted the beer establishment, and they forced the liquor enforcement folks to censor our label. The ACLU saw this as a First Amendment issue, and fought with successful determination to bring the label back to life as intended by Ralph and Hunter.

We're proud to have participated in the struggle to keep free speech—and our capacity to announce that "the emperor has no clothes"—alive and well.
